Evolution of Romanian-German relations is a very good one from the economic point of view, Germany becoming Romania’s top trade partner, last year, and climbing from the fourth to the third spot in terms of foreign investments in Romania, stated on April 9, in Oradea, Roland Lohkamp, the Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest.
Accompanied by the German Consul in Timisoara, Rolf Maruhn, the Ambassador of Germany met the Prefect of Bihor County, Mircea Ghitea, the Mayor of Oradea Municipality, Mihai Groza and a County Council’s representative, the respective talks being mainly focused on the economic aspects and on the county development plans, infrastructure and investments in various fields.
"I am fully aware that Romania’s north-west zone is a rich one and I am glad we have received a lot of supplementary information I am going to share with the German investors interested in coming to Romania", underlined the Ambassador in a press conference.
Roland Lohkamp also said that an investment decision is taken, depending on the offered advantages: customs and taxes, land price, a specialized labor force, competition on the market, infrastructure connections and last, but not least, an "efficient bureaucracy". If the labor force is not a problem in Bihor, being a qualified one, infrastructure could pose some difficulties, especially in the road construction area.
As for the rumours circulating in mass-media, namely that the well-known Mercedes concern would plan to invest in Bihor, the Ambassador said that, for the time being, he has no knowledge about such plans, but that "there are certain ideas, according to which Romania is included on a map (of investments – editor’s note)".
The German diplomat expressed joy, when finding out more about the positive role played by the German community in Bihor, as well as the enhanced interest in the German culture and language manifested by young people, which offer them more opportunities to be hired by German companies.
The German Ambassador is making a short tour of Romania’s north-west zone, visiting together with the German Consul in Timisoara, Rolf Maruhn, the Arad, Bihor and Satu Mare counties. On Thursday, the two officials are to attend events linked to the "Satmarean Days".
