Hotel complex posts 50 pct of turnover by organising team-building programmes

Four-star hotel complex Aqvila Club from Rucar (southern Romania), part of the ITS Events Management Group, which is a complex held by three local businessmen, realizes 50 percent of its turnover by organising team-building programmes for such companies as Petrom, BRD, Ursus, Mobexpert, Porsche, Zentiva or Vodafone.
According to Liliana Balici, one of the company’s shareholders, another 30 percent of the revenues come from training programmes. The company’s 2007 turnover stood at 1.2 million, with estimates for this year pointing to 1.5 million.
The Aqvila Group Project was initiated in 2002, with a 40-room hotel being built in a first stage, and also with three conference halls and an 80-seat restaurant. In 2005, the hotel capacity was extended to 120-room, through the erecting of three new luxury villas, with a 200-seat restaurant being also opened also and with the 4th conference hall.
Liliana Balici considers the market value of the investment stands now at 6 million euros. The hotel’s shareholders intend to enlarge the accommodation capacity and also to invest more in the team-building infrastructure. Moreover, the Aquila Club concept is to be extended with two more spaces, to be located at maximum two-hour distance from Bucharest.
"Aqvila Club is a club devoted exclusively to the business tourism, targeting such corporate customers coming here to carry out team-building activities, seminaries, board meetings or thematic parties," Mrs Balici said.
The ITS Events Management Group, which includes four other companies too, operating in the IT, constructions, international event organisation and real estate sectors, hit 32 million euros in last year’s turnover, betting on an increase by 25 percent this year.
