Romanian Liberals call for European Commissioner Frattini’s honorary resignation

The representatives of the National Liberal Party (PNL, at rule) in the European Parliament will call on European Commissioner Franco Frattini to tender honorary resignation, arguing he had made remarks running counter the European provisions, PNL vice president and Defence Minister Teodor Melescanu said on Monday.
It seems Frattini has been on a prolonged pre- and post-electoral leave, Melescanu said in the end of the PNL Central Political Bureau meeting.

European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini, who is Silvio Berlusconi's choice of foreign minister after the recent elections in Italy, pronounced in favour of a re-negotiation of a European Union directive allowing the free stay of the EU citizens in the bloc's member states, arguing that "the free movement of citizens cannot turn into the free movement of criminals".
Furthermore, leader of the centre-right National Alliance Gianfranco Fini said he did not preclude the possible re-introduction of the visa rules for the Romanian citizens seeking to enter Italy and that a possible change of the free movement rules should be discussed with the European Commission.
