Romania will promote the EU policy in water management, as a priority, it will implement the principles of the Framework Directive for Water in the countries included in this component, said on Monday, in the opening of the 11th meeting of the working group for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA), of the EU Water Initiative, Lucia Ana Varga, secretary of state at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, says a press release issued by the ministry.
On the agenda of the meeting, due May 12-13, in Bucharest, there are topics such as the integrated management of the water resources, identification of the challenges relating to sanitation and to ensuring water resources, ways to fund projects for water supply for the rural area.
This is the first seminar of the two that Romania is to organize, after it took over, from the European Commission, for two years, EECCA’s chairmanship, on the occasion of a meeting in Moscow, on Dec. 13, 2007.
The priority actions Romania supports this year, as the EECCA president, will be the ones begun by the European Commission, in 2009 Romania will promote a swap of experience in water supply and sewerage between Romania and the countries in the EECCA area.
Also, during its mandate, Romania intends to contribute to the development of dialogues on national water policies, to promote viable financing strategies for the water-used water sector in the region.
