Famous Romanian tennis player Ilie Nastase 'christened' on Thursday the Romanian engine in the Vienna West Railway Station, part of the public initiative for the preparations for the EURO 2008 European Soccer Championships to start next Friday and organized by the Austrian Federal Railways (OBB), when 16 OBB engines were painted in the colours of the countries contesting in the EURO 2008.
The engines were named by remarkable personalities of each state such as Austria's President Heinz Fischer who inaugurated the Austria engine.
After ‘wetting' the engine with champagne, godfather Ilie Nastase made a short trip by the Romania engine, a Foreign Affairs Ministry release says.
Also attending the event were Romania's Embassy charge d'affaires Adriana Stanescu, OBB PR director Walter Sattlberger, many Romanian diplomats and Romanians living in Vienna, and Austrian media representatives.
During the EURO 2008 and later by the end of the year, the Romania engine will cross Austria with Ilie Nastase's autograph on it and the ‘Good Luck' Ilie wishes the Romanian soccer squad in EURO 2008 championships.
