The net investments in the national economy in the first six months of this year were by 31.8 percent higher than in the similar span of time last year, and totalled 32.457 billion lei, according to the data supplied by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Monday.
The investments that materialized in new construction works in the first six months of 2008 totalled 15.883 billion lei and accounted for 48.9 percent of the total as against 46.9 percent in the similar span of time last year. The investments in constructions increased by 33.9 percent as against the first six months of last year.
The investments in transport equipment and means amounted to 14.730 billion lei (45.5 percent of the total as against 48.12 percent in the first six months 2007), up by 28.2 percent as against the first six months 2007.
The main branches in which investments were made in the first half of this year are industry, constructions, the wholesale and retail trade, motor vehicle, motorcycle and personal belongings repairs, transport, storage and communications as well as the public administration.
According to INS, the value of the investments in the national economy in the second quarter 2008 as against the second quarter in 2007 grew by 6.478 billion lei in current prices (+30 percent) and totalled 20.075 billion lei.
Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian recently told a news conference that he hoped that, at the end of the year, Romania would register direct foreign investments topping 10 billion euros.
