Population’s end-July bank deposits at 49.8 bln lei

The population's deposits in the local currency – the leu – advanced 0.5% to a total of 49.894 bln lei on July 31, 2008, announced the National Bank of Romania (BNR).
Deposits in lei advanced 34.3% (23.1% in real terms) from July 31, 2007, informs a central bank release.
 
Deposits in lei of juridical persons (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) dropped 1.6% to 42.457 bln lei. On July 31, 2008, deposits in lei of juridical persons were by 20.1% higher (10.2% in real terms) compared to July 31, 2007.
 
Foreign currency deposits of the residents, households and juridical persons (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) expressed in lei went up 0.1% to 48.017 bln lei (expressed in euros, foreign currency deposits increased by 3.2% to 13.577 billion euros).
 
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the residents' foreign currency deposits expressed in lei went up 53.3% (expressed in euros, the residents' foreign currency deposits increased 36.9%); the population's foreign currency deposits expressed in lei went up 56.1% (expressed in euro, the population's foreign currency deposits gained 39.4%) and deposits of juridical persons (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) expressed in lei advanced 49.6% (expressed in euros, foreign currency deposits of resident juridical person was 33.6%).
