Private rail transport operators from Britain interested in Romanian market

Eight private operators of freight rail transport are interested to enter the Romanian relevant market, after a delegation of these companies and of the members of the British Parliament visited several cities of Romania, in order to verify the potential in the area, show data from the Association of the Rail Industry in Romania.
Among the companies interested in the Romanian market, there are English, Welsh and Scottish Railway, Freightliner, GB Railfreight, Direct Rail Services, Fastline, Victa-Westlink Rail, Amec-Spie Rail and Advenza Freight.
The companies are members of Rail Freight Group (RFG), the association of rail transporters in Britain. The British delegation visited Aug 31 – Sept 5, some cities in Romania, for a global view of the rail market deregulated not long ago, of the stage of the Romanian rail industry.

Arad, western Romania, was the first city visited, the company met manager from Astra Carriages, one of the biggest makers of rolling stock in Romania, member of IRS group. Brasov, center, followed, where the British visited a container terminal, and Constanta, south-east, the biggest Romanian Black Sea port.
Managers from the main players in the Romanian relevant market, such as CFR Marfa, the national operator of freight transport, Grup Feroviar Roman and Servtrans Invest, whose share of the market is on the rise, met members of the delegation of Rail Freight Group.
Talks were held also with Transport Minister Ludovic Orban, officials from the Romanian Rail Authority, from the national infrastructure managing company CFR SA.
The Romanian rail market currently numbers 30 operators of passenger and freight rail transport.
