Transelectrica SA National electricity corporation and the business consortium of REVA  Germany and Electromontaj Bucharest have signed a contract worth 33.512 million euros for the retooling of its power transformer and high voltage cable substation at Lacu Sarat, Transelectrica reports in a press release.

The 400/220/110/20 kV power transformer substation at Lacu Sarat is an important energy hub in eastern Romania providing connections between the southeastern and the northeastern parts of Romania’s electricity transmission grid.

The Lacul Rosu substation was commissioned in 2 stages: in 1974, when the 220 kV, 110 kV and 20 kV installations were put in place, and in 1985, when the 400 kV installations started up, and its aim was to collect the electricity generated by the four generation groups of the Braila heat and electricity station and to secure electricity distribution to industrial users in the Braila area.
According to the Perspective Plan of Transelectrica and the corporation’s investment programme, the retooling of the Lacu Rosu substation should start in 2008.

“Retooling the entire 400/220/110/20 kV substation by modernising the primary and secondary energy equipment and optimising the electricity scheme will create the possibility for remote control of the substation from the central and local dispatchers, thus increasing quality of the electricity transmission services, security in supplying electricity to the users of the electricity transmission network and reducing maintenance costs in the future by remote monitoring and diagnosing of all equipment. At the same time, the retooling process will permit the management of the collection of the power generated from renewable sources from the Dobrogea area,” says Transelectrica Director General Stelian Alexandru Gal.

The value of the contract, 33,512,631 euros, will be fully covered from Transelectrica’s own funds and the necessary works will be conducted by the AREVA Germany – Electromontaj Bucharest consortium in 48 months, 2008-2012.
Transelectrica is Romania’s transport and system operator that manages, operates, maintains, modernise and develop the electricity transmission network of Romania made up of 77 transformer substations of a capacity estimated at 35,000 MVA, and 8,955 km of overhead power lines for 110/220 kV, 400 kV and 750 kV power values managed by 8 transmission subsidiaries.
