Romania might see 8% growth this year said economy minister
Romania might see economic growth at 8% this year, Economy and Finances Minister Varujan Vosganian said on September 9 after meeting visiting Swiss counterpart Doris Leuthard.
With a record 9.3% advance of the GDP in the second quarter compared the same period a year ago, Romania ranks top of the 27 European Union member states, according to preliminary estimates made public by the European Statistics Office Eurostat recently.
The gross domestic product in the EU 27 recorded 1.6% growth at an annual pace, while in the EA 15 euro zone the growth was 1.4%.
According to figures released by the National Institute of Statistics, the Romanian GDP totaled 109.019 billion lei in current prices in the second quarter of this year, up 9.3% in real terms from the same period a year ago. The Romanian GDP amounted to 195.764 billion lei in the 6 months of 2008, after having posted 8.8% growth. The economic growth target set this year is 6%.
