High-level Romanian-Irish talks

After official talks with his Irish counterpart Mary McAleese at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace in Bucharest, Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday said he asked for Ireland to look into the possibility of supporting the idea that Moldova should be included in the Western Balkans package when European enlargement is discussed.

Besides analysing the regional state of affairs, which included Georgia, Basescu and McAlleese discussed the Irish experience with using European funds and the need to modernise the education system.
Irish President Mary McAleese started this morning an official visit to Romania.
Also today, the Irish head of state is scheduled to have talks with Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Bogdan Olteanu and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Doru Ioan Taracila.
