desktop sales will drop by some 10-12% from last year, according to data provided by Fujitsu Siemens Computers Co. (FSC).
„The Romanian IT products market is marked by the migration of consumers’ preference to notebooks, to the detriment of classical PCs. If in 2007 the notebook sales represented a quarter of the desktop sales from quantities point of view, in 2008 it is estimated that notebook sales would equal the desktop ones”, underlined Eduard Slobozeanu, FSC specialist.
According to FSC representative, clients’ preferences are directed to notebooks with 15.4" diagonal, approximately 70% of the clients buying those.
„Another tendency is the orientation of consumers to notebooks with prices of approximately 400 euros, some 60% of the sold products being priced around this value”, added Slobozeanu.
The tendency of price reduction is to be present in 2009 as well, say FSC representatives, the reduction averaging 10%. Reductions in 2009 are mainly expected in general medium and high product segments.
FSC signed a contract of direct partnership with retailer Altex Romania through which it seeks a rise by 300% in IT equipment sales, their value being estimated to attain seven million euros till the end of March 2009.
FSC is one of the top 3 players on the notebook market in Romania, on the consumer segment, accounting for a market share of 16.6% at the end of 2007, according to IDC. Till the end of 2008, FSC plans to exceed the ceiling of 20%.
FSC Co. is present on all significant segments of the market in Europe, Middle East and Africa through its services division, which expanded its activity in 170 countries all over the world.
