ARIS monitors 92 investment projects, in value of 11 bln euros

Romanian Agency for Foreign Investment (ARIS) is granting technical assistance at present and monitors 92 foreign investment projects, under implementation in Romania, in a total cumulated value of 11 billion euros, announced ARIS vice-president Monica Barbuletiu.
These investments will lead to the creation of 37,000 new work places, stressed ARIS representative, on the occasion of the launching of the World Investment Report 2008 released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
He pointed out that the agency tries to orientate foreign investors to sectors with big added value and top technologies, referring to this end to the Renault investment project in Titu – of 450 million euros, as well as Nokia, Ericsson and Microsoft investments.
ARIS official appreciated that Romania will continue in 2009, as well, the upward trend of foreign direct investments (FDI) and underlined that fields of interest are the auto and auto components industry, processing industry, bio-energy and IT and research-development sectors.
In the first seven months of 2008, FDI volume stood at 5.7 billion euros, a surge of 30% compared to the similar period in 2007.
Barbuletiu appreciated that, full-year, the FDI volume will exceed eight billion euros, level ARIS hoped to be attained at this year-start, although with “reservations”.
Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian stated on Wednesday that overall investments in the Romanian economy will amount at 47.7 billion euros in 2008 and will exceed  50 billion euros in 2009. According to him, in 2008, investments will be 10 billion euros higher from 2007. Of the total value of 47.7 billion euros invested in the Romanian economy this year, 10 billion euros represent public investments (from the budget), 10 billion euros – foreign investments and 27.7 billion euros – investments made by the private sector.
