Aurel Vlaicu Airport to be closed for two weeks

International Aurel Vlaicu Airport, located in Baneasa district of northern Bucharest, will be closed for runway repairs, over Sept 29-Oct 12, when the traffic will be taken over by Henri Coanda Airport in Otopeni (nearby Bucharest).

The Airport will be shut for a fortnight for repairs of the runway and terminal junction. "We chose this time span because there are about 20-25v flights a day, which means one of the less busy of the year," Airport's manager Stefan Mladin said.
The runway rehabilitation works will cost over 20 million euros and are financed from commercial credits.
As a result the number of flights will increase by 25 flights a day, which is a 25 percent growth. There will be no capacity problems, but there might be delays as low-cost flights tend to be late, Otopeni Airport'S PR manager Valentin Iordache told.
