Telephone call between Traian Basescu and Vladimir Putin

Romanian President Traian Basescu had a telephone call, late on Tuesday (Jan 13) with Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, about natural gas, the dialogue has been confirmed for Agerpres by spokesman for the head of state Valeriu Turcan.
"Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin rang president Traian Basescu for an information on the supply of natural gas by the Russian Federation," said Valeriu Turcan.
 
Romanian president Traian Basescu shares the position of Russia regarding the responsibility of Ukraine for the transit of Russian gas to European consumers, announced the press office of the government in Moscow, quoted by ITAR-TASS, after the telephone call, late on Tuesday, between the Romanian head of state and Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin.
 
According to the Russian press agency, "Vladimir Putin has told the leader in Bucharest that Ukraine does not allow the transit of gas through its gas pipelines."
The Romanian president "has shown serious concern and has stressed that he shares the position of Russia regarding the responsibility of Ukraine for the transit to consumers in Europe," said the press office of the Russian government.
