Non-gov’t lending up 1.5% in December 2008

Non-governmental lending extended by the lending institutions was up in Dec. 2008 by 1.5% (1.3% in real terms) from November 2008, to 19.808 billion lei, the National Bank of Romania announced on Tuesday (Jan 27).
Lending in national currency leu terms was down by 2.1% (minus 2.4% in real terms), while forex lending in leu terms was up by 4.4% (the forex lending in euro terms was down by 1.0%).
Non-governmental lending on Dec. 31, 2008 recorded 33.7% rise (25.8% in real terms) from end-December 2007, being the result of the 23.6% rise in the leu component (16.2% in real terms) and 42.2% rise in the forex component in leu terms (the forex lending was up by 28.8% in euro terms), the central bank said in a press release.
