More than 1,100 EU-funded projects, submitted in past four months
A number of 1,153 projects, in value of 11.8 billion lei, were submitted starting December 22, 2008 through April 30, 2009, announced on Tuesday the Government’s spokesperson Ioana Muntean, at the end of the meeting of the Inter-ministerial committee for the management of the EU funds’ absorption.
She mentioned that 159 projects, in the value of 3.7 billion lei, were approved during this interval and 554 projects were contracted, in the value exceeding 3 billion lei.
As well, payments in value of 351.8 million lei were made to the beneficiaries.
Muntean reiterated that, in order to accelerate the Community funds absorption, the Government took a series of measures amid which the reduction of the period for tenders organization from 87 days to 30 days, as well as the rise of national co-financing from 15 percent to 20 percent, for the EU-funded projects.
The Prime Minister also examined the situation of the submitted projects, approved and contracted.
During the Inter-ministerial committee the Premier underlined that this Government has the „needed determination and political will” to make the Community funds absorption a success and addressed his thanks to Jean Marie Sayler, Director of the European Commission’s (EC) Directorate General for Regional Policy, the responsible unit for Romania, for his support granted to the Romanian authorities in the accessing process of European funds.
In his turn, Jean-Marie Seyler, DG Regio Director, appreciated the Government’s effort aimed at boosting the Community funds absorption, pointing out he was ready to further aid these approaches.
As well, Anastassios Bougas, head of the Unit for Romania, voiced his whole support for the European funds accession and utilization, given the importance the Romanian authorities give to this field, by including it into its anti-crisis measure plan.
The Inter-ministerial Committee for the management of EU funds’ absorption has met on Tuesday, at Victoria Palace (Government’s headquarters), having been chaired by PM Emil Boc.
Also attending the meeting were two representatives of the European Commission for the structural funds – Jean Marie Sayler, Director of the EC Directorate General for Regional Policy and Anastassios Bougas, Director for Romania in the EC.
