CNS Meridian presents in Brussels situation of rail transport in Romania
Meridian trade unions presented on Tuesday, in Brussels, the situation of the rail transport in Romania, during a meeting with Jonathan Scheele, general head of Directorate B for the logistics of transport, trans-European networks of transport and co-modality, of the GD for energy and transport of the European Commission.
In a partnership with the Commission, the trade unions will hold a long debate at the European Parliament on the road transport, be it at the European Parliament, in Brussels, or in Germany or France, countries considered to be models which can be followed as regards the efficiency of railroads.
Leader of CNS Meridian Ion Popescu said, at the end of the meeting, that the rulers have to be faithful to their electoral pledges, with the image of a country also given by the road transport, in consequence of the grave situation this sector of activity is facing, as well as to the lack of strategy regarding the modernization and development of the road infrastructure, the ensuring of optimum work conditions, the professional training of the workers.
The documents presented to the representative of the EC are a petition addressed to the Government of Romania by the Road National Alliance and the Federation of Engine Drivers, an open letter addressed by Meridian National Union Federation to the Presidency of Romania, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and a message of solidarity of Meridian Unions, presented on the occasion of a rally of protest held by the trade unions in the rail system, on April 29, 2009, in Bucharest.
