FinMin to keep on issuing gov’t bonds, even though has access to EC financing

The Public Finance Ministry will keep on issuing government bonds in the domestic market, even though it has access to the five billion euros worth of financing from the European Commission (EC), State Secretary at the ministry Bogdan Dragoi said on Monday.

The European Commission loan has entered the final lap, but the Public Finance Ministry will keep on issuing in the domestic market and it will begin issuing on the medium- and long-term mostly, Dragoi told the official opening of the trading session on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

He stressed the ministry is being very active in the internal market this year and has missed no issue of government bonds set in the originally announced half-year calendar.

The balance of the government bonds due in 2009 amounts to 11 million lei, the state secretary announced.

The government bonds began being traded on the BVB in June 2008, Dragoi said, adding that 26 issues are being traded at this moment. ‘We’ll do our best to increase their number and the trading volume’, he said.
