Isarescu: Single currency to be adopted, if monetary indicators attain euro zone level

Romania could adopt the euro in 2014, under conditions of Romania’s National Bank (BNR) holding a solid reserve as reported to the GDP, stated on Thursday, in Iasi (east), BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu.

„If we want to adopt the euro in 2014, Romania has to hold a minimum reserve both in lei and foreign currency up to 2-5 percent till 2012”, said Isarescu.

„Sooner or later, the step to the adoption of the single EU currency must be made, but for that we need some monetary indicators comparable to those in the euro zone”, explained BNR Governor.
