Romanian President Traian Basescu on Friday opened the works of the first edition of ‘The Forum of Local Authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova’, an event organized in the Romanian eastern city of Piatra Neamt by the Department for Relations with Romania Everywhere under the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
The working agenda of the event includes such issues of common interest, with the organizers aiming at consolidating the cooperation between the local authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with the EU neghbouring policy to be observed.
For two days, the participants will exchange good practices related to such matters as the promotion of the local autonomy development concept, conclusion of bilateral and multilateral partnerships under such projects that can benefit of financing from the European funds, consolidation of the cooperation with the civil society in the benefit of the local authorities.
A special interest at the Forum is to be showed in the organization of stages and exchange of experience events between experts and public servants from the two countries. Moreover, this event represents a good occasion to identify modalities for Romania and the Republic of Moldova to cooperate in the field of tourism, through partnerships to promote the concept of regional, rural and cultural tourism.
Participating in the forum there are some 150 mayors from cities and town in the two countries. The Forum will be carried out over May 14-16 in Piatra Neamt, with President Basescu attending.
