Gallup opinion poll: Traian Basescu – 35 percent of vote intentions for presidential polls

President Traian Basescu is leading in the electoral preference of the Romanians, by 35 percent of the vote intentions, he is followed by Social- Democratic leaders Mircea Geoana and Liberal Crin Antonescu, both of them getting 19 percent, if presidential election would take place next Sunday, reads a Galllup opinon poll, sent on Friday.

Next comes prince Radu, 10 percent, head of Romania Mare Corneliu Vadim Tudor – 9 percent, leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania Marko Bela, 3 percent.

In relation to the previous years, the results of the presidential elections of this year count equally much for 44 percent of the voters, while for 30 percent, they count more. But for 12 percent of the respondents they do not count at all, and for 10 percent, they count less.

Asked how they appreciate with the candidates the personality and qualities of a ruler necessary to a president, 47 percent of the subjects answered that Traian Basescu has the necessary qualities, compared with 46 percent, who believe that he does not have them.
Six percent does not know.

Abut Mircea Geoana and Crin Antonescu, 33 percent of those interviewed said they have the necessary qualities for a head of state, but the two are different in term of the negative options.

For Mircea Geona, 57 percent said they do not have the necessary qualities, ten percent do not know, and for Crin Antonescu, 44 percent said they do not have the qualities for being a head of state. 23 percent do not know.

About Traian Basescu, 25 percent of those interviewed believe that he is independent in his ideas and actions, 33 percent that he is a strong and determined leader, 22 percent that he is honest and trustworthy, 23 percent believe that the people’s needs count for him, 15 percent that he shares the values of the subjects of the opinion poll, 20 percent that he is a strong and determined leader, 15 percent that he shares the values of the subjects of the opinion poll, 18 percent that he places the interests of the country before his own interests, 16 percent that he has a clear plan for resolving the problems of the country.

About Mircea Geaona, 12 percent of the respondents believe that he is independent and sets the interests of the country before his own political interests, 16 percent that he has a clear plan for the solving of his own political interests, 13 percent that he has a clear plan for the resolving of the problems of the country.

As regards Crin Antonescu, 11 percent of those interviewed believe that he is independent in his ideas and actions, 13 percent that he is a strong and determined leader, 14 percent that he is honest and can be trusted, 9 percent that he cares for the needs of the people, 10 percent that he shares the values of the subjects of the opinion poll, 11 percent that he is somebody he will be proud to have as president, 11 percent believe he would work well with any government regardless of the parties making it up, nine percent that he would put the interests of the country before his own political interests before his own.

As regards the way in which Basescu uses his prerogatives, 50 percent of those interviewed said they disapprove him, while 37 percent approve of him.
