Italy’s Ambassador in Bucharest Mario Cospito paid an official visit to the southern Prahova County, on Thursday, when together with the president of the County Council Mircea Cosma visited a Romanian-Italian joint venture and met Prefect Radu Oprea in the afternoon.
Ambassador Cospito said he was for the first time in Ploiesti, where he visited one of the most important Italian investment in Prahova County, the Romanian Italian joint venture Elettra Communications SA belonging to Finmecanica Group in the Ploiesti Industrial Park, celebrating its 5th anniversary.
During his talks with Prefect Oprea, the Italian ambassador proposed the expansion of the Company’s activity given that there were local skilled workers. During the five years of activity, about million euros was invested here.
The Company numbers over 800 employees and makes high tech communication equipment and compounds for the aeronautical industry.
Ploiesti and Prahova are very important for Italy, because the Italian companies are very active on the local market and there are about 500 joint ventures or companies having only Italian shareholders, Cospito said. Prahova numbers about 20,000 companies, 2,500 of them being joint ventures or having foreign capital.
The Italian companies are also affected by the economic crisis, but they took measures to curb their activity without laying off manpower, the ambassador said, adding that he wants more Italian companies in the Prahova County in fields such as the food and the tourism in the mountain area.
During the talks held with the Italian guest, we established that together with the Romanian and the Italian chambers of commerce, we should organize the visit by economic delegations of possible Italian investors to Prahova, in mid-June, said Prefect Oprea.
