Leader of the Social Democratic Party (co-ruling PSD) Mircea Geoana on Monday stated, after the meeting of the PSD National Standing Bureau, that Minister Predoiu ‘will be given a break’ until the next report on Romania of the European Commission (EC).
‘I believe that we should give Minister Predoiu ‘a break’ till the next country report of the European Commission, when we will see whether the decision to prolong his term in office was justified or not. But, first of all, we hope the report will not be negative.
I believe we need to continue to join our efforts and I also make an appeal to the other political families and to the Liberal Democratic Party (co-ruling PD-L), which is more close to the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats, with many critical voices existing in this European Group against Romania, and also to the Liberals (National Liberal Party, in opposition) and to the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR, in opposition), to all join efforts for a positive country report to result. In the end, it is about Romania, not about a party or another.
I for one hop we will have a report not to praise us so much, but at least not to be so worse to cause cutting of the European funds to Romania,’ Mircea Geoana said.
Referring to the Government assuming the Criminal and Civil Codes, the PSD leader said that the Parliaments needs some time to reflect on them too. ‘I am convinced that, after the two Codes are adopted, we will have a serious public debate over the matter.
I believe there is enough time for the Parliament to debate on the two Codes too,” Geoana said.
He also reminded the former Minister of Justice Monica Macovei assumed responsibility during her term in office, together with the PNL-PD Government, of a law package on the Justice reform.
