Romania’s President Traian Basescu, who is on a two-day official visit to France, was met on Monday, at the Elysee Palace, by his counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy during a ceremony with military honours of the Republican Guard.
Nicolas Sarkozy gave a working lunch in honour of President Traian Basescu. Previously the Romanian Head of State had a meeting with President of the National Assembly of France Bernard Accoyer.
In the afternoon President Basescu will have talks with Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Angel Gurria, after which he will meet Premier Francois Fillon. The last item on the agenda is a meeting with the representatives of the Romanian community at Romania’s Embassy in Paris.
Before leaving for Paris, the Romanian Head of State said that the visit to the French Republic planned to consolidate the strategic partnership that was signed last year.
On the second day of his visit Basescu will visit the nuclear power station at Flamanville.
Romania’s delegation also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu, Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu, Minister of Transports Radu Berceanu and Minister of Tourism Elena Udrea.
