Crisis is also an opportunity for Romania, says PM Boc

The ongoing economic crisis is also an opportunity, and Romania may find a chance to carry through its structural reforms that were postponed in the past 20 years, Prime Minister Emil Boc told a Central and East-European financial forum on Wednesday.
‘The ongoing economic crisis is also an opportunity. There is always some good in any evil, as the Romanian saying goes. Maybe Romania will find a chance to carry through those structural reforms that were postponed in the past 20 years, the reforms that no Romanian Government in the past 20 years had the courage to carry out,’ said Boc.
He added that the reforms regard measures that set the system in order, for instance pay in the public system, where Boc argued ‘is a lack of regulation of staff paid for by public money.’
‘There is regulation there, but it has no logic and no ethic and it is not even constitutional. The time has come now for Romania to have a uniform pay law for the employees paid for by public money,’ said Boc.
The prime minister also mentioned the reform of the pension system and administrative decentralisation, which he said got started and will continue.
