The payments worth 600 million euros which have to be made by the Agency of Payment and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) have already been processed and the payment orders drawn up, said on Wednesday May 20, Minister of Agriculture, Ilie Sarbu at the opening of INDAGRA Food&Drink fair.
Ilie Sarbu said that the deadline for the payments is June 30.
According to minister Sarbu, further 25,000 applications were sent for payment, the overall number of applications estimated for this year being of 1.2-1.3 million. Sarbu voiced hope that until June 30 the payments according to the calendar might be made, although there will most likely be outstanding payments.
According to APIA figures, the Romanian farmers had received by May 15 over 172 million euros from the financial support bound for payments per hectare from European funds and from the national budget.
The support measures per area are financed from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF), the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and from the state budget, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development. (MAPDR).
In 2007, the first year in which the financial aid was extended, farmers received 97 euros/ha from the European funds and the national budget, whereas for last year the allotment grew to 109 euros/ha. For the 2009 the financial allotment is of about one billion euros, representing 115.9 euros/ha.
