Number of construction permits for residential buildings, issued in the first four months of the year, dropped 13.7 percent compared to the similar period in 2008, to 14,642, according to data announced on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
Most important declines appeared in the following development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (south), 1,037 less issued permits, Center (minus 425) and North-East (minus 264). Just one development region, South-West Oltenia, featured a higher number of issued permits for the construction of residential buildings, a plus of 148 such permits.
According to INS data, a number of 4,071 construction permits for residential buildings were issued in April 2009, a 6.7 percent drop as against March 2009 and 21.1 percent from April 2008. Some 64.9 percent of the issued permits in April for the construction of residential buildings were for rural zones, continuing the previous month trend.
INS data also show that 1,089 less construction permits for residential buildings were issued in April, 2009 compared to the similar month previous year.
