Candidate of the ruling Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) in the europarliamentary elections Oana Antonescu said in an interview given to Agerpres that she would struggle for improving the way in which Romania is perceived and that she planned to submit to public debate the real problems the citizens have to face.
„Our country’s priorities must be promoted through a sustained lobbying activity with a view to protecting the rights of the Romanian citizens and supporting their interests … I will submit to public debate the real problems the citizens have to face by using the means I deputy has at her disposal.
I am going to struggle for improving the way in which Romania is perceived all over Europe by an efficient and responsible activity carried out within the European Parliament [EP],” says Oana Antonescu.
She says that the mandate of a European parliamentarian is a big responsibility.
She also opines that the decisions made by the EP largely influence the Romanians’ lives, but not enough information is given so that people should better understand the importance and role of the EP.
„We must be aware of the fact that about 60 percent of the laws of the member states are produced in the EU institutions: the one on the environment protection, consumers’ rights, equal opportunities, transport, free movement of workers, of capitals, goods and services, etc. Unfortunately the Romanians were not given enough information for them to understand what the EP deals with and what its role and importance are,” said Oana Antonescu in her interview.
Oana Antonescu is nominated by the PD-L organization in Dambovita County (southern Romania) for the europarliamentary elections and is the tenth on the list of the above-mentioned party’s candidates.
She is 29, was a lawyer for two years, was a counsellor with the General Secretariat of the Government and now she is an advised with the EP, in the office of MEP Rares Niculescu. Oana Antonescu started working in politics in 2001 as a member of the Democratic Party.
