Outstanding bank loan repayment up 75 pct

The outstanding loan repayment at the commercial banks was up 75.9 percent in the first three months of this year, the National Bank of Romania said in its statistics on the financial behaviour of the Romanians and the economic operators.
The longer-than-30-days outstanding payments of the individuals and companies surged to 5.041 billion lei (1.205 billion euros), amid a 118.6 percent rise in the outstanding forex loan repayment.
The Romanians and the companies amassed outstanding repayments to loans totalling 2.865 billion lei (719 million euros), at end-Dec. 2008.
Less-than-30-days outstanding debts climbed 224 percent from April 2008.
Such outstanding debts accounted for 2.5 percent of the total bank loans to the population and companies, at the end of this April, up from 1.44 percent at the end of 2008 and from 0.91 percent at the and of April.
The individuals’ outstanding forex loan repayment equalled 519.12 million euros on this March 31, up 118.6 percent on end-2008, when they totalled 249 million euros.
At the end of this April, the balance of the bank lending to the individuals and companies amounted to 201.5 billion lei (48.16 billion euros), down 1 percent on March; of this 82.7 billion lei (19.77 billion euros) or 41 percent was national currency borrowing.
The outstanding debts incurred by the Bucharest-based individuals and companies were up 108.8 percent in the first four months of 2009 to 1.72 billion lei (410.7 million euros), of which 59 percent was forex lending.
