‘The wounded climber has several fractured bones, but his condition is stable,’ MAE spokesman Alin Serbanescu told Agerpres, adding that the families of the two climbers were informed.
Romania’s Consul to Lyon Gabriel Stanescu went to the site and has been permanently monitoring the situation, keeping in touch with the French Gendarmerie.
MAE has been in contact with the French authorities, but cannot reveal the identity of the two climbers till their families do not agree on it.
A Romanian mountain climber died on Wednesday while descending the Mont Blanc in the French Alps, at 4,000 m altitude, AFP reported.
He slipped 200 meters down and was found 15 m lower in a cleft on the Dome du Gouter, a stage in climbing up Europe’s highest peak, the French Gendarmerie said. While falling down, he also pulled his partner along, the latter being seriously wounded.
