„The interest of Romania is to have an energy route allowing it, on the one hand, to ensure a diversification in the supply resources, and on the other hand, to do so as Romania no longer be a white spot on the energy map of Europe,” Geoana explained.
Asked what gas pipeline is more profitable for Romania, Nabucco or South Stream, Geoana did not give a precise answer.
Following a visit to Transgas in the city of Medias, county of Sibiu, north of Bucharest, Geoana said that the Nabucco project can place Romania on the map of the 21st century, being the most important project for Romania’s domestic and foreign policy.
„I believe that ideally, routes allowing for the presence of the main energy players would be welcome.
Romania has to avoid entering the trap of the games of energy routes as levers of geopolitical influence, „with Russian participation in a fair percentage, for it to become a less strategic project, most of a commercial one.”
