Romanian honey, on high demand for export

Those almost 500 beekeepers from Brasov county in central Romania are barely coping with the high demand from abroad. 80% of the output goes to Germany, UK , France and Italy.

„The demand is higher that what we can produce. We leave only 1% of the output to the domestic market,” Silviu Ganea with the honey processing center in Fagaras said.

Out of the 500 beekeepers, 100 submitted projects for European financing. They also get 75 lei from the state every 50 families of bees, even if most of them have over 100 families.
The Brasov county only produces five types of honey. Acacia honey offered the best production this year.
