On this special occasion the US ambassador extended the copies of his credentials. According to Romania’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, during the talks, the two dignitaries evoked the special nature of the bilateral relationships and the excellent level of the cooperation between Romania and the USA, at many levels.
The US ambassador emphasized the outstanding importance the Washington authorities give to the relation with Romania, one of the closest friends and partners of the US in Europe.
They also reviewed several regional topics of common interest for the two countries.
US President Barack Obama appointed Mark Henry Gitenstein for the office of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Bucharest, of the United States of America, and the US Senate confirmed him in the position, on Friday, France Presse reports.
Mark Henry Gitenstein is a lawyer and was in the transition team assuring the transfer of the presidential prerogatives from George W. Bush to Barack Obama.
The previous US ambassador in Romania Nicholas Taubman ended his term in office in November 2008.
