Crin Antonescu to resign Senate deputy chairmanship

Crin Antonescu, the national leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL), will resign the office of Senate deputy chairmanship at the beginning of the next parliamentary session, according to his statement on Sunday in Piatra Neamt.

Antonescu said his resignation is determined by his running for Romania’s President, which will leave him short of time to deal with the issues specific of his office.

‘I will resign the Senate deputy chairmanship because, as a presidential candidate, I will have no time left to carry out my duties. Besides, I do not want to be accused of using the Senate logistics in my presidential race.

As a matter of fact, I have not made use of it so far, and I have not even ridden the office car on my electoral trips,’ said Antonescu.
Antonescu was in Piatra Neamt to chair an electoral county conference of the local PNL branch.
