BCR exec: The leu, likely to strengthen against the euro

There are prospects for Romania’s national currency, the leu (RON), to strengthen against the single European currency, the euro, given positive predictions for the region, Executive Chairman of Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) Dominic Bruynseels told a commercial TV channel on Friday.

He said the leu might significantly strengthen against the euro if the predictions over Eastern Europe are optimistic, which would be a good thing for the economy because it would allow for the export of machinery and other manufactured goods.

Bruynseels also said BCR will get oriented toward financing the Romanian Government by issuing RON-denominated Government securities for a reasonable interest rate.
