INS: Trade turnover ups over 7pc in July

Turnover in retail trade (except for trade in cars and motorcycles) grew in July as against the previous year as gross series (up 7.2 percent) and as adjusted series depending on the number of working days and seasonability (up 2.2 percent), according to a realese issued by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the retail trade turnover went down as gross series (down 13 percent) and also as adjusted series depending on the number of working days and seasonability (down 13.8 percent).

In July 2009, compared to the same period of the previous year, the retail trade turnover (except for trade in cars and motorcycles), gross series, reported a reduction of 13 percent.

The retail and wholesale turnover, maintenance and repair of cars and motorcycles, gross series, reported in total an overall decrease of 44.6 percent, because of trade in cars (down 54.6 percent).

The activity of services for population on the market, gross series in July 2009 reported a 21.3 percent lower turnover, as against July 2008, prompted mainly by the activities of travel agencies and tour-operators (down 54.1 percent).

Over January to July 2009, as against the same period of the previous year, the retail trade turnover (except for trade in cars and motorcycles), gross series, went down by 10.3 percent.

Over January 1-July 31, compared to the same period of the previous year, gross series, the volume of retail and wholesale trade turnover, maintenance and repair of cars and motorcycles fell by 39.3 percent, mainly because of the trade in cars (down 46.9 percent).

As regards the services for population, the turnover as gross series fell by 14.8 percent and as adjusted series depending on the number of working days and seasonability by 12.1 percent.
