French personalities decorated by Romanian President

Romanian Minister of Culture, Religious Affairs and National Patrimony Theodor Paleologu, on Thursday bestowed, in the name of the Romanian President, two important decorations to French personalities in the musical field, reads a release of the Romanian Embassy in Paris.

The ceremony took place in the Golden Hall at the Behague Palace, with the ‘Cultural Merit in rank of Commander” Order having been bestowed to Nicolas Joel, and the ‘Cultural Merit in rank of Officer” Order having been bestowed to Franck Ferrari.

Nicolas Joel is the artistic manager of the Paris Opera and the author of a new staging of the Romanian great composer George Enescu’s „Oedipus” opera, presented at this year’s edition of the „George Enescu” Festival, with Franck Ferrari, the famous baritone of the Paris Opera performing the leading role.

The opening speech at the ceremony was held by the Romanian Ambassador to France Teodor Baconschi, who congratulated the two important musicians, also remarking on this occasion France’s constant support showed for the organization of the ‘George Enescu’ International Music Festival in Bucharest.

The Romanian Minister of Culture reminded about the personality of the great Romanian composer, also thanking the two personalities for their exceptional interpretation of Enescu’s opera.

Later in the same day, Minister Theodor Paleologu participated also in the varnishing of the exhibition ‘Brueghel, Memling, Van Eyck, la collection Brukenthaľ at the Museum Jacquemart-Andre in Paris.

The exhibition resulted after the cooperation between the Brukenthal Museum based in the Romanian central city of Sibiu and the Jacquemart-Andre Museum in Paris, with the support from the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Romanian Embassy in Paris.
