Alliance for Fair Elections is set up
The Alliance for Fair Elections urges the authorities in charge to take urgent measures for the running, in conformity with the legal norms, of the presidential elections, to boost the citizens’ confidence level in the electoral process by assuring the needed transparency, establishing the conditions for the implication of civil society in the organization and monitoring of this electoral process.
„Assessing the crisis Romania has plunged in as a result of the impossibility to establish the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), of the political parties tendency to approach the issue of organization and correctness of the electoral process in an unilateral manner and of an alarming increase in the number of citizens who believe that the elections in Romania are a fraud, Active Watch – Press Monitoring Agency (AMP), Cartel Alfa and Pro Democracy Association (APD) announce the setting up of the Alliance for Fair Elections”, says a release remitted on Monday.
The quoted source is based on the results of the opinion poll „Electoral fraud perception at the end of July 2009”, conducted by the Company for Sociological Research and Branding, commissioned by APD, in the period July 23 through 27, 2009 according to which 63 percent of the respondents believe that the elections in Romania are a fraud.
The three organizations consider that „the peak of the political regime crisis in Romania was attained during the conflict between the judicial and executive powers, fact with direct consequences over the running, in line with the law, of the electoral process for the election of Romania’s president”.
