Cash-carrying van attacked by robbers on northern Romania highway
A spokesperson for the Maramures County Police Inspectorate said the robbers attacked a van carrying 100,000 lei that was to supply the cash machines in Sighetu Marmatiei town.
The police and gendarmes who are investigating the case believe the criminals knew the area very well, they knew the route of the van and the exact time when it was going to carry the money to the ATMs.
They believe the robbers, who stole 100,000 lei and three guns from the van guards, used a forest road to escape the police dragnets.
The Maramures County Police Inspectorate spokesperson said early inquiries show the firm charged with carrying the money failed to observe the transport safety rules.
