Economic cooperation and situation of Romanian community, on PM Boc visit agenda to Rome

Strengthening of economic cooperation between Romania and Italy and situation of the Romanian community in the Peninsula represent the main subjects.

Romanian Premier Emil Boc is to approach in his talks with the Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi during the official visit he is paying Wednesday and Thursday to Rome.

„These will be two extremely significant days for the consolidation of political and economic relations. (…) There are two important points on the agenda of the meeting with Premier Silvio Berlusconi – economic cooperation and the situation of Romanian community in Italy”, said Emil Boc during a press declaration given on „Henri Coanda” Airport in Bucharest.

He pointed out that the essential moment of his visit is the audience with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican and the meeting with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, secretary of state with the Holy See.

„Both during the audience with His Holiness and with Cardinal Bertone I will underline the Romanian authorities and my determination, as head of the Executive, to militate for defence of human dignity, importance of religious freedom, of the universal human rights, as well as the need to engaging a dialogue between cultures and civilizations and support to Christianity”, said Emil Boc.

As for the political component of his visit, PM Emil Boc is to meet his Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi, and will also have meetings with Speaker of the Deputies Chamber Gianfranco Fini and Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno.
Political talks are aimed at the strategic partnership between Romania and Italy, with accent on the traditional Romanian-Italian diplomatic relations, 130 years since their establishment being celebrated in 2009.

Prime Minister Emil Boc reminded that the Romanian community in Italy, according to Italian statistics, numbers approximately one million people and Romanians’ contribution accounts for 1.26 percent of the GDP.
As well, some 800,000 people work in the companies with Italian capital in Romania, an overall of approximately two million people being directly involved in the Romanian- Italian relationship.

„Therefore, we have from all points of view a mutual interest to see Romanians in Italy benefiting of the best conditions, as European citizens, in order to run activities in this country, also as European Union citizens, and in respect of civil rights and freedoms”, said the Executive’s head in Bucharest.

At the same time, the Premier is to meet on Wednesday evening representatives of the Romanian community in the Peninsula and those of religious cults.
He will also have on Thursday a series of meetings with economic partners and with representatives of the Italian commercial companies, the President of Fiat Co. among them.

Members of the delegation accompanying Premier Emil Boc in his visit to Rome are Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu, Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu and Minister of Health Ion Bazac.

Romania and Italy have developed a privileged relation as regards its economic dimension, Italy being since Jan. 1997 Romania’s main commercial partner, steadily ranking first both in the field of the total volume of commercial exchanges and of Romania’s exports and imports weight.
