The two officials examined the bilateral relations stage and prospects, especially in the economic and energy sectors, as well as the investment opportunities offered by the Turkmen market to business community in Romania.
„President Traian Basescu voiced satisfaction with the signing in Brussels, on the occasion of the European Union (EU) – Central Asia Ministerial Conference, of the EU – Turkmenistan Interim Agreement, which marks a significant step forward in the consolidation of relations between the European states and Ashgabat.
Head of the Romanian state underlined that he mainly backs the development of the parliamentary dimension of the bilateral relations, set to contribute to the consolidation of political, economic and inter-human links between the two countries”, says the release remitted by the Presidential Administration.
Akdja Nurberdyeva addressed thanks for the extremely warm reception during her stay in Romania and conveyed a greetings message from the Turkmen President.
President Traian Basescu paid on July 21 and 22 an official visit to Turkmenistan, at the invitation of his counterpart Gurbanguli Berdamuhamedov, occasion with which the head of Romanian state also met the Parliament’s Speaker Akdja Nurberdyeva.
Traian Basescu and Gurbanguli Berdamuhamedov signed in Ashgabat a joint declaration through which they expressed both sides’ opening for the deepening of bilateral relations, both in the economic and energy sector and in other fields of interest for the two states.
As well, in the presence of the two heads of state, the Protocol of the first session of the Romanian-Turkmen Inter-governmental Commission for the economic and technical-scientific cooperation was signed, as well as the regulation governing the same Joint Inter-governmental Commission.
At the same time, the two sides sealed a Protocol on the exchange of ratification instruments to the Convention on double taxation avoidance and fiscal evasion prevention, concluded between the Governments of Turkmenistan and Romania and signed in Bucharest on July 16, 2008.
