Romania signs cross-border memorandum in case of natural and man-made disasters

Romania’s Permanent Representative to NATO Ambassador Sorin Ducaru signed on Sept. 16, 2009 in a ceremony organized at NATO Headquarters, in the presence of the Assistant Secretary General for Operations NATO, Martin Howard, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Facilitation of Vital Cross-Border Transport.

By signing this document, Romania is committed to ensure a simplified transit procedure for relief personnel and material at all cross-border points, as well as an accelerated transit of the relief personnel and material on the national territory to beneficiaries.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations with the Ministry of Administration and Interior is the institution in charge with the implementation of the provisions of this document nationwide, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs in a release.

By becoming the 29th signatory state of this memorandum, Romania joins its allies and partners in the promotion of a space of cooperation, where they can easily grant mutual support, more quickly and more efficiently in case of natural and man-made disasters, conveying once again a positive signal as for Romania’s backing cooperation relations between the allies and partners within the Euro-Atlantic partnership.
