President Basescu talks with lawyers about magistrates’ protest
President Traian Basescu received on Tuesday afternoon, at Cotroceni Palace, representatives of the National Union of Bar Associations of Romania, the head of state explaining that, to begin with, he wished through this discussion to evaluate the magistrates’ protests effects.
„This meeting has one reason: so I can evaluate the impact of the activity stoppage or reduced activity – I do not say strike because justice cannot declare a strike – of the judges and prosecutors upon your activity and, implicitly, upon those you represent in the courts of justice”, said the head of state.
He announced that, on Wednesday, he would meet representatives of the notaries, those of the judicial executors and of the National Union of Insolvency Practitioners.
„At the end of these meetings we are going to send the conclusions in writing, I will send them to the Government, if governmental measures are needed to leave this blockage behind. (…)
What I want you to understand very well is that, in our approach, Justice is not strictly limited to the judges, prosecutors and court clerks and that is why I wanted to discuss with the main categories which together form the Justice system in Romania”, mentioned President Basescu.
The head of state underlined that he did not wish that this meeting generates position taking, just an evaluation of this protest effect.
He thanked representatives of the National Union of Bar Associations of Romania for answering this invitation.
