CSM overrules Laura Codruta Kovesi’s reinstatement as Prosecutor General
In its Thursday sitting, CSM department for prosecutors debated Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu’s proposal for Laura Codruta Kovesi’s reinstatement as the Prosecutor General with the High Court of Cassation and Justice, for a new 3-year term.
According to the procedure, the Prosecutor General is appointed by Romania’s President, at the proposal of the Justice Minister, and the assent by the Superior Council of Magistracy (C SM).
In compliance with the legal provisions the Prosecutor General has a 3-year mandate and he/she can be reinstated one single time. Laura Codruta Kovesi was appointed Prosecutor General with the High Court of Cassation and Justice, on Oct 2, 2006 by the decree signed by President Traian Basescu.
