President of Republic of Azerbaijan pays visit to Romania
On Monday, the official welcome ceremony is organized at Cotroceni Palace, followed by tete-a-tete talks and talks with the participation of the two delegations. After the ceremony of signing the official documents the two heads of state will give press declarations.
Over July 1-3, Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu paid a visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he took part in the works of the fourth session of the Romanian-Azeri joint inter¬governmental commission for the commercial and economic relations and technical and scientific cooperation and had meetings with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and with the Prime Minister, Artur Rasizade.
Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan established on June 19, 1992 diplomatic relations at embassy level.
In 2004 (October 11-12) President Ilham Aliev paid an official visit to Romania, followed by another visit, on September 24, 2007, when he attended the opening of „Heydar Aliyev” Foundation. Traian Basescu paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2006 (Oct. 11-12).
On August 21, 2008 President Traian Basescu paid a working visit to Azerbaijan, part of a tour to Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia, in the context of the Russian-Georgian war in South Ossetia.
In the aim to boost the bilateral cooperation in the economic field a Romanian-Azeri joint inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic relations and technical and scientific cooperation was established, with a first session in October 2004, in Bucharest.
The total volume of commercial exchanges between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan stood at 127.2 million dollars in 2008.
