Transylvania Motorway opens 42-km stretch

The first 42-km stretch of the Transylvania Motorway in central Romania opened on Tuesday, with caretaker Prime Minister Emil Boc and caretaker Transport Minister Radu Berceanu taking part in the event.

Also attending were Social Democratic senior members Ioan Rus and Vasile Dancu, who stressed that the Transylvania Motorway project had begun during the Adrian Nastase Government (2001-2004), when they were ministers.
The opened stretch links the city of Turda to Gilau (central-western Romania), with the 42 kilometres being travelled by Boc and the other attending officials. The Motorway will have a total 415 kilometres, of which more than 55 kilometres of bridges and viaducts, 58 flyovers and 16 junctions.
