‘Mr. President of Romania Mircea Geoana, let me congratulate you and wish you good luck. May that God give you and us the power to begin a new and good chapter in the history of Romania. I also want to extend thanks, on my behalf and on behalf of my party, to all those who came out to vote, irrespective of whom they voted for.
They spoke, as is democratic and normal. I thank all those who understood that change is needed and I can assure them that by their vote they freed Romania and gave a chance that we, the politicians having worked for the change, must not waste. Guided by Romania’s President today elected, Mircea Geoana, we will rebuild Romania, confidence, the economy and the institutions,’ said Antonescu.
The PNL leader also urged the party’s members to be vigilant when the ballots are counted. ‘I am urging all my party colleagues to stay on the watch out in this hard night and guard the people’s votes so that we have a correct vote count and after certification to make up a Government and start working,’ said Antonescu. Antonescu waited for the release of the exit polls on Sunday evening at the headquarters of the PSD in Bucharest, alongside Mircea Geoana.
