Net investments lower by quarter in first nine months

The net investments in economy, which include construction work, acquisition of equipment, means of transport and other expenses with investments, amounted to 43 billion lei (10 billion euros) in the first nine months of this year, down by 22.5 percent from the same time span of 2008, according to the data published by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Analysts appreciate that the 22.5 percent decrease is significant when considering the fact that two-digit increases were registered in the past few years, reads daily Ziarul Financiar. In the first nine months of 2008 net investments were by 28 percent higher than in 2007.
More than 54 percent of the net investments over January-September 2009 were made in construction work, about 37 percent accounting for investments made in equipment, means of transport included, and the remaining over 8 percent are other investments, for instance the purchase of draught animals or plantations of fruit-bearing trees.

The net investments in the national economy decreased by almost 30 percent in the third quarter alone as against the similar time span last year, to 16 billion lei (3.7 billion euros). Fifty-eight of them were investments in construction work. According to INS, the share of investments in new construction works increased by 7.5 percent in the third quarter of 2009 as against the third quarter of 2008.
