Over 200 participants belonging to 18 denominations attending Prayer Breakfast

Romanian Parliament’s Ecumenical Prayer Group held the 4th edition of the Prayer Breakfast, at the Parliament Palace, where over 200 representatives of the civil society the religious denominations, Romanian and foreign officials and parliamentarians were attending.

According to the Group’s chairman Social Democrat Dep. Cristian Dumitrescu, the 210 guests came from 22 countries and deputize for 18 religious denominations.
The session’s topic is the Family Crisis presented in three sections, namely the Laws on Family, Education within Family and Solving Family Conflicts, Diaconescu specifying during a news conference that the topic was chosen early in 2009.

‘When we decided the topic of the Prayer Breakfast’s this year edition, we had no idea that Romania was to experience the global crisis,’ said Dumitrescu, stressing that the event was not political but soul-felt.

Dumitrescu said that until this year, the Prayer Breakfast happened under the patronage of the Chamber of Deputies Speaker and it is succeeded for the first time to hold the event under the patronage of the both speakers of the Romanian Parliament, namely of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase and the Senate’s Mircea Geoana, although none of them were attending the event, on Thursday.

Attending the Prayer Breakfast were the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Deputy Adrian Nastase, the Senate’s deputy speaker, the Liberal Teodor Melescanu, the ex-Democrat Liberal Gheorghe David and the US Ambassador in Bucharest Mark Gitenstein. The Breakfast is due to end in the visit the participants are to pay to the Peles Castle, in Sinaia (110 km north of Bucharest), on Friday.
